The Cloud That Couldn't Rain
A little cloud above the hill
Was full of summer rain.
It tried to make a thunderclap
But only sneezed again.
The cows looked up. The flowers drooped.
The farmer shook his head.
"The fields are dry! We need some rain!"
The little cloud turned red.
It squeezed and puffed and rumbled.
It practised all the day.
But only one small drop came out
And landed on the hay.
At last it saw a thirsty frog
Beside a dusty drain.
"Oh dear! I've let you all down!"
And burst into the rain.
The frog jumped in the puddles.
The flowers lifted high.
The cloud, now thin and wispy,
Went floating through the sky.
